Which serial interfaces are supported?

All models provide RS485 and RS232. Mini DTU adds TTL, while Standard DTU ports can be configured as RS232, RS485, or mixed to suit legacy devices.

2. Protocols and Connectivity

Can I run multiple protocols simultaneously?

Yes. Each serial port exposes two concurrent sockets, so a single gateway can handle transparent TCP/UDP tunnels, Modbus RTU↔TCP sessions, and MQTT/HTTP(S) uploads at the same time.

What problem does Modbus gateway mode solve?

It converts the RTU bus into Modbus TCP, allowing SCADA to read registers over Ethernet, 4G, or WiFi. This removes long RS485 runs and extra serial cards in the control room.

Does it support secure connections?

Yes. MQTT and HTTPS both run on TLS 1.2. Upload your CA/client certificates via the web console or rely on the built-in trust store for mainstream cloud providers.

How do I configure many devices quickly?

  • Web UI: Fastest for single-site commissioning.

Can I update firmware remotely?

Do I need the vendor’s cloud platform?

No. Connect directly to AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, ThingsBoard, Node-RED, or any MQTT/HTTP endpoint to avoid lock-in.

4. Reliability and Installation

Will it stay online in harsh environments?

The gateway operates from -40 °C to +85 °C, uses a metal enclosure with TVS protection, and accepts 5/9–36 VDC, so it fits cold storage, mining tunnels, and outdoor switchgear.

How do I mount it on DIN rails or panels?

Every unit ships with a 35 mm DIN clip plus screw holes. Mini DTU is finger-sized for dense cabinets, while Standard DTU aligns with 2U-wide trays for neat wiring.

5. Troubleshooting

4G link will not register—what should I check?

  1. Confirm the SIM is active and APN is correct.
  2. Ensure AT+CSQ is above 10 (usable signal).
  3. Disable any SIM PIN lock.
  4. Verify the data plan still has balance.

Modbus TCP clients can’t read registers.

  1. Match serial baud rate and parity with the RTU slave.
  2. Assign Modbus gateway mode to the correct port.
  3. Confirm slave IDs in TCP requests equal field addresses.
  4. Check RS485 A/B polarity or RS232 TX/RX wiring.

How do I factory reset the device?

Hold the RESET button for 10 seconds or send AT+FACTORY; the gateway reboots with default IP, credentials, and serial parameters.

Need more channels? Assign unique Modbus IDs and stack multiple modules on the same RS485 bus; mix SKUs to cover DI/DO/AI/AO without custom hardware.

All models accept 9–36 VDC and can share the site’s 24 V rail. Use a dedicated supply for heavy relay loads to prevent surge feedback.

2. Wiring and Isolation

  • Built-in SPDT relays handle 10 A @ 277 VAC or 28 VDC. Add RC snubbers/contactors for inductive loads.
  • All DI/AI channels are opto-isolated with surge suppression; analog channels switch between 0–10 V and 4–20 mA via DIP or register.
  • DI defaults to dry-contact mode. Set to voltage mode in the UI/registers when wiring to powered outputs and tie COM properly.

3. Edge Logic and Resilience

Store up to 32 IF-THEN rules (e.g., DI1=ON → DO2=ON, AI1 > threshold → close relay) to keep automation running even if PLC/SCADA links fail.

Outputs, pulse counters, and logic tables live in EEPROM, so they survive power loss. AO channels return to their last calibrated value on reboot.

4. Commissioning and Maintenance

  • Front-panel LEDs (PWR/COM/ERR) plus diagnostic register 0x0800 reveal power, traffic, and fault states; relay SKUs include a local test button.

2. Installation and Wiring

  • No software pairing is required—match the labeled units (e.g., Y401-A to Y401-B) and power up.
  • Each node accepts 9–36 VDC with reverse-polarity protection; ensure cabinet power budget covers ~120 mA RF bursts.
  • DI channels are opto-isolated for wet/dry contacts; relay outputs are rated 5 A @ 250 VAC / 30 VDC.

3. Wireless Performance

LoRa modulation shrugs off most industrial noise. Keep antennas clear of metal enclosures (use cutouts or external whips) and avoid running RF cables beside VFD power lines. If RSSI falls below -110 dBm, upgrade the antenna or reposition the node.

Select the correct regional SKU (EU868, US915, CN470, etc.) and keep one region per site to meet regulations.

Monitor link quality via status LEDs or the optional USB maintenance tool, which reports RSSI/SNR and hop counts (Y403).

4. Operations and Maintenance

  • If power or RF link is lost, outputs fall back to a safe state (hold-last or OFF). They re-sync automatically once the link returns.
  • No periodic calibration is required—inspect antennas and terminals during routine checks.
  • Expanding the network:
    Y401: Add another paired kit—no interaction.
    Y402: Press the pairing button on the master, then the new slave within 30 s.
    Y403: Power the new node; it auto-discovers neighbors. Use the maintenance tool if you need a topology map.
  • No subscription or SIM fees—Y40 operates on license-free LoRa bands. Ongoing costs are limited to power (and backup batteries if used).
